Translink has an excellent safety record in school transport, but has never been complacent about safety. The company is committed to making school transport as safe and comfortable as possible for its school pupil passengers. It is accepted that bus travel is 10 times safer than travel by car.

New high safety specification school service vehicles being delivered will offer enhanced levels of comfort and safety to school bus service users. 110 new seatbelted and fully accessible vehicles have been ordered with funding support fromthe Department for Regional  Development.

With the ending of the ‘3 for 2’ seating practice and pupil standing on school bus services, and with the introduction of other safety features on school buses, the quality of school transport will be greatly improved.

This should have a positive effect on encouraging school children to use public transport, thereby minimising the adverse impact of the school run.
